I'm on my way for my family research trip to Connecticut. Discretionary. I could call it a memorial trip, I know that my mom was especially interested in that family history I wrote in 1974. So she would be glad that I'm going to New Haven and working on this project with my cousin Mary Ann.
I wrote a German genealogist last night and got a response this morning. I saw that Besla Zunder had emigrated in 1854. Somehow my grandmother thought that Maier Zunder had brought over his mother to the US from Bavaria when she was quite old. But not the case. Reinhold wrote back and said that she had traveled with two daughters Getta and Sarah. I don't think I've ever heard of them before.
I'm hoping for some insights and surprises on our three days 'on the ground'. As usual I brought a ton of stuff, binder, notebook, a few books, pictures for Jewish Historical Society. My theme is 'what Maier Zunder tick?" What motivated him. What happened in Bavaria that influenced him. I have that one good book that centers on Jewish 'emancipation' in Bavaria but much of it discusses events after Maier left.
I have plenty of information about what he did and new things come up all the time. But merely enumerating would be boring.
Flight delayed out of Seattle but they insist I'll make my connection in Chicago.
I may or may not have a picture.

Later, made it to my hotel in Hartford, my cousin will pick me up tomorrow morning. Flying into Chicago by myself really brought back all those dozens of trips I made to Rockford in the last 11 years. So many.
