Photoessay #1560 - The Zone

Yesterday, we took Melina for a birthday outing at UW. We walked to Hed Edmondson pavilion to drop me off at 3:15 pm as I was working the football game as an usher. They let all three of us in to look around and we got to watch the women's basketball team practice. The main draw to come a bit early was a free lunch. Afterward, Melina really wanted to see what was going on at Husky Stadium. She convinced Dennis to stay until 5:45 when the band and the cheerleaders welcome the coaches and players into Husky Stadium. When I got up to my section about 4:45, I was surprised that they were still there.

The Zone is an area outside of the stadium where some restaurants and special tents are set up and they do serve alcohol there. It's free to get in. So there's Melina and Dennis at the very center of the photo. Dennis is wearing a red sweatshirt. I took this picture from my section in the South Stands.

Melina really wanted to see the band and the cheerleaders and just be part of the whole crazy scene. The lower photo the team buses approaching and the band and cheer squads awaiting the player. We're looking east across Lake Washington so it's not really a sunset but a lovely violet sky.

My view had the very best view. Demolition starts tomorrow.....
