Photoessay #1509 - Friendship bracelet
Naomi is making me a friendship bracelet! She's been doing this all summer. She's got some great weaving patterns down. I picked out the colors, she says it's going to turn out very '70s but what can I say? Probably the orange and the teal green? She says she's going to put some kind of clip on it.
You can see that she's accumulated a fair amount of embroidery thread over the summer. She likes doing this kind of handwork. Takes after her grandmother and great grandmother in that way. I have never enjoyed this kind of work, partially due to my poor fine motor coordination. Ilana has even worse fine motor coordination than I do. Susanna's artistic, can draw, etc.
What do you all think of my choice of colors?
Naomi's in the middle of a 'pre-autumn experience' for Central Washington University; a two week session where she observes a teacher preparing for their classroom and teaching the first 7 days of class. Her placement has been full of drama; a unique experience to see how a public school solves problems. I'll leave it at that---except to say she's not part of the problem.
She finishes that the end of this week, then will move over to Ellensburg and start fall quarter at Central. As a transfer junior. She now realizes that when you have a car, you have to move in yourself! Nobody (not dad who usually draws this duty) goes with you. She'll live in the dorm this year to get acquainted and her room is very small so there won't be that much stuff.
Central has an enrollment of just over 10K, less than 5% of the students are from out of state. It's known as a teacher training college which is just perfect for her.
She did the fancy fingernails with her friend Leslie yesterday.
I'll post a picture of the bracelet when it's done.

I love the way her fingernails look next to the friendship bracelet in process. Azure, the blue blue sky, yellow/yellow-orange, the joy of the the big bright, life-giving sun, and jade green, the color of healing. Nice choices!
It's very sweet that your daughter is making you a friendship bracelet. A gift on my many levels ~ enjoy the sweetness!
I love working with my hands. Studies show that any work done with your hands (including folding laundry and cooking) decreases the risk of depression. Our hands are one of our main modes of expression. Even if we do larger-motor activities with them.
Naomi sounds like she is headed to a great school for her. May she have a deeply satisfying experience. (And keep making those beautiful bracelets, Naomi!)
This reminds me of the brick I have saved where I bugged my bf to get me a brick from his job site to do this.friendship bracelet
I love how simple this tutorial is. Thanks for the inspiration. BTW Thanks Anna for the tip, def something to consider.
