Photoessay #1510 - More football people

How about some more people involved with the Univ of Washington game last weekend.

First, when we got there, we waited with the other ushers at Hec Ed Pavilion where they gather everybody together for a meeting before the game. I'm dressed like these guys. Maybe you can tell that the 200 gameday staff is mostly older and male. The temp was over 80 degrees which qualifies for a heat wave here in Seattle. I'm also wearing shorts. Very modest shorts, that go to the knee. These pre-game meetings are pretty dull. You sit in the area with your supervisor and your other folks. My supervisor, Mike, is in charge of the lower part of the south high deck. I stressed out so much last year when they told you to go sit with your supervisor and I didn't HAVE a supervisor so I didn't know what to do. Finally Mike decided to pick up all us newbies. If it's cold, they hand out coats. This year they hand out access passes on lanyards. I have a cool magnetic nametag with my name on it. After awhile we all walk into the stadium and climb up to the upper deck. I'm less winded than last year. The upper and lower people gather and then those guys all go upstairs. I counted 21 people in our group last week, only 4 women. Most people have 'a tunnel'; I do. You know, the one at the end with the view. My friend David is in the next tunnel over.

A few days ago, I posted the view from my section. This time, I turned around the other way, looking over the crowd in the middle of the game. Lots and lots of people in the south upper deck.

The crane is for the light rail station their building near the stadium.

All of this is set in stone. Except after this season, they're going to knock down a lot of the stadium and build a whole new one. They're going to take down this whole south upper deck and build a whole new something. Everything will be different. Next year, the Husky games will be at Seahawks stadium and we're all out of a job. Who know about 2013 when they return. I'll see.
