Photoessay #1504 - Ted M -- too soon

I went to a memorial service today for Ted M, only 68 years old. Died of a sudden heart attack doing a thing he loved doing -- fishing in his boat. The drop-dead thing. I knew him for all of his work in parent group. He and his wife Pam attended the Seattle group when I first started. Probably stayed there a few years. I remember their wise counsel and some wonderful programs that Ted gave.

Something about all you go through in that group, the tremendous challenges, the essential support, the difficult changes you must make....makes for long relationships and close friends. A lot of Changes people there, a few dozen at least. One of the largest constituencies in this informal service at Lake Forest Park Civic Club. None of us spoke; I really expected some other who had been there more of the same time or had served on teams. You never forget the people who have helped you so much.

His wife said that he had recently lost weight, getting lots of exercise, in the best physical health in years. You never know when your number comes up.

But I always respected Ted, took his comments very seriously, learned a lot from him. A wise, kind man.
