Photoessay #1498 - Family art

Something interesting is happening with my siblings, at least with my brother and me.

We are becoming artists. Maybe my sister has been one all along.

My brother enjoys developing his talent as a staned glass artist. He has produced some beautiful pieces especially in the last five years. He develops themes, works with color and shape to produce some beautiful pieces. He loves it, it's in his soul. He's made a website, check it out

Don't ever go with Charlie into a glass shop, you'll never get out of there, my sister and I tell each other.

He also loves doing photography when he's driven to do so. He had a ball taking hundreds of pictures during our Hawaii trip last December. He's worked this way and that.

This summer, he spent a week here in Seattle on a work assignment. I invited him (with permission) to come with me to my beginning Digital Photography class. He and I both have point and shoot cameras with manual controls. As opposed to a 'real' SLR digital camera. I warned him that he would learn all the things he couldn't do.

He had a great time that evening and asked to see the digital handouts the teacher provided. Was I surprised to hear that, when he returned to Chicago, he bought a SLR camera with all the trimmings?

He just sent me this picture taken with his new camera.

And I also have been working on artistic projects. You've heard my mantra "I'm all about the arts and I'm not going to let me lack of talent stop me!". I've been writing and writing, working on it. Working on my pictures.

If not now, when? Now's the time.

But I wonder, usually artists start out that way, they're like that their old life. What about the late bloomers?

Enjoy my brother's dragonfly picture.
