Photoessay #1199 - 4 kids in 1998

My kids, of course. From my one of my mother's albums. Ages at the time: 9, 12, 14, 16. Look like Edmonds Beach to me. I'm sure the occasion was a grandparent visit. I'm sure that things were going badly with Danny but I could not have seen the direction. I likely bribed him to go along. You can see him distracted, pulling to go another direction. Likely already using a fair amount of drugs but I didn't know it. The girls playing in the sand, just messing around. Late afternoon looking at the shadows, ferry in the distance.

My family was generally overwhelming. To me. To places we went. So many personalities and general noise level. We didn't have much money either.

but everybody's here generally having a good time.

Also including a cute picture of Ilana from that same time. Don't know what she's up to, wait, wait, I think it's coming to me. Could this have been her costume for the 6th grade play? The philosophy of the 6th grade play is that EVERYBODY could be in it. Nobody left out. They smashed as many kids as they could onto the stage. As I remember it, she was in a crowd scene way at the back, tossing a fake fish to her friend Emily. You couldn't see her but no matter, she was IN THE PLAY.

Ilana, have I called this right?

I think you called it. It the philosophy that everyone (5th and 6th grade) was in the play, but the lucky 6th graders each got a line and usually a named part. A certainly momumental undertaking.

This was me in 5th grade, as Fish Monger #2. Emily Swint and I were in one crowd scene. I still remember the dance. And own the fish.
