Photoessay # 1081 - 1954 Barnes family
The Barnes family in 1954, Lanaya and Jim with their two young children Victoria (5 mths) and Dennis (2 yrs). Could have been in their home in Seattle, the cabinet and the lamp look vaguely familiar. Couch not so much. Especially later in their life, they bought and sold things often. And, with both the Barnes and Ginsburgh families, if there's anything historical, I would have it. If I don't, it's gone. I think they moved to Berkeley later in the decade, likely they still lived in West Seattle. This picture could have been taken somewhere other than their home. Who's taking the picture, I wonder?
They smile with genuine satisfaction. They're 27 years old, married 8 years. And likely just where they want to be. Two young children, Jim a job in the Seattle planning department, Lanaya at home with the kids. Lanaya, looking good as usual, so tall and slim. Long arms and legs, mo wonder she made such a good pinup. Can't for sure to know how they really felt or what pressures they felt, having two small kids is never easy, but my guess is that they were pleased.
Picture an example of matching adoption. Dennis came to their family through adoption, Victoria came by birth. Dennis eyes do look a little crossed, I think he might have had some corrective surgery later.
