Photoessay #1080 - MY section

Possibly I may be beating this UW theme into the ground...and it's only going to get worse as I start my certificate program this week.

I worked the football game last night. UW lost to ASU 24-14 and the game wasn't even that close. And yes it rained. A bunch.

But the main theme of this post, I want to talk about MY section. Seems pretty clear that, for the rest of the season that Tunnel 52 with the lower parts of section 50 and the weensy bit of section 52 (which I still have not figured out yet), that's MY section. I can see that you start to have some opinions about what should happen in YOUR section. For example, I told somebody last night, nobody falls down the stairs in MY section. Nobody slips on the metal grate thingie in the tunnel in MY section (and that sucker is slippery). Since my section is the smallest, likely I might have this section to myself.

Though MY section is small, it has some distinct advantages. My section, being on the east end has a fabulous view of the Zone (where they have restaurant tents) along with the rituals with the band and the team walking in; Lake Washington beyond with all of the boats, the east side and the Cascades beyond. People come to MY section to take pictures off the end of the stands. Also a thought-provoking view of the softball field which is practically on top of the football field.

So views, Sandy, views. Show us some pics from your section. I haven't gotten that far to bring the camera. Which I absolutely must do. The idea is to travel light. Very very light. Like you operate from your pockets. No extra stuff. You are supposed to put your bag, if you have one, in some lockers somewhere unknown to me. My supervisor said we could put them back in this unused storage room in the back. I made the mistake last time of waiting until the end to fetch my bag and found out that they park a lot of the concession stands, vehicles and other big piece of who knows what back there which I had to crawl over to get back to my bag.

Next time, I promise, I will take the camera and stick it right next to my tunnel so my readers can get the true flavor of MY section.

Of course, now that I'm involved with writing this blog, I'll never see tunnel 52 again but I'll risk it.

Last night, there was more police security action close to my area. Members of the Washington State Patrol come to my tunnel every so often and look around. Apparently in the next section over, some young guy, likely drunk, stumbled going down the stairs, caused a woman to tumble, the kid took off, the husband of the fallen woman in hot pursuit. The dad of the young man got involved. The WSP people leaped into action and tackled some of the participants. As my supervisor said, when those state patrol guys tackle you, you go down HARD. I saw the aftermath, a bit later. The patrolmen, the young man and his dad, they were trying to go down the elevator (which I didn't know how to work)and the perp and his dad were trying to be real compliant.

Also some police were dealing with two men, one accusing the other of ripping a seat cushion off and strong feelings were being expressed.

So I've assembled some shots that demonstrate the location. The first shows much of the stadium looking from the horseshoe end. You can see a little box center right showing the approximate place I hang out in the south upper stands. This picture likely taken at a Band Day...and last night was also Band Day with 32 high school bands performing. Then another shot looking directly at the south stands showing the tunnels. The white box shows Tunnel 52.
