Photoessay #1066 - Skykomish River

Dennis wanted to go on an outing today. And it's always up to me to figure out where to go. Now that we actually have time to do such a thing. He likes Hwy 2. Some little towns up there. I start trolling around trying to find a place that's different, not too far.

I would like to go up to White Rock, fish and chips, etc. But don't know about taking the dog across border and getting back in again. Weather now as good today as yesterday.

I finally concentrate on the sure thing to find interesting things in the area. Atlasquest! Of course, a letterbox will always take you to something maybe unexpected. Forget the tourism or chamber of commerce sites. Hmmm....some boxes in Index (one of the towns). Haven't been there in a long time. And they look doable, doesn't take a 4 mile hike to get there. And found recently

Dennis knows the drill. He might complain but letterboxing is always on the agenda.

So I pack the obligatory (after picking up another load of those fabulous peppers, I can't use all of them but how can I resist...from the farmer's market). We looked for three boxes and found 2 plus a bonus stamp. One was in a little private park near an espresso place on Hwy 2 with a Harry and the Henderson's theme. Then we looked for one under this old railroad trestle in the very small town of Index. Index can be very impressive, not so much in the drizzle and rain. We got entwined with the little historical museum. Lady gave me the hint to find the last one. A very cute granite bench right on the Skykomish river. Very impressive wood carved stamp of Mt. Index.

Here's the view from the bench...not bad! Skykomish River going through Index.
