Susanna had some tickets to the Oklahoma-Washington Super-Regional in the NCAA D1 softball tournament. At Husky Stadium, sold out. Last night, I wrote about going to the first game of best-of-three series and watching Danielle Lawrie have an uncharacteristic bad outing; Washington losing 6-1. Sitting out in the outfield watching those home runs whiz over my head. The game didn't ever seem that close.
So, the format is playing a second game and then an if-necessary game if the teams are tied 1-1. I left determined to see it to the end. That's when I said, you better hope I come home late.
Which is exactly what happened. Danielle Lawrie was on a mission, she was not going to let anything detour her. She started strong and got stronger. Oklahoma lost both games (3-0 and 4-0) so UW returns to the WCWS (Women's College World Series). In fact, Danielle struck out 17 in the the second game. Softball's only 7 innings so only 4 outs recorded in the field. Amber Flores had hit *3* home runs the night before, they walked her every time. Except the last at-bat in the 7th, Danielle struck her out. So general excitement and the usual cast of characters. Looked for my Canada Cup buddies (the two surviving ones anyway) but did not see them. As usual, we did not sit in our assigned seats. The Oklahoma fans were given a special place (hey, why didn't the UO fans get that?) and the older usher was quite concerned that they be able to move to the other side of the stadium. Hey, to me, those just looked like better seats for ME. Eventually we scored them but the usher was guarding them for awhile (from who?).
Got to meet and get to know Susanna's head coach at UPS which I really enjoyed.
First photo is Danielle Lawrie doing her thing which she did a LOT last night. She was National Player of the Year in 2009 and will likely repeat. And a picture of the Husky band in the outfield seats doing THEIR thing. Friday night, I was sitting RIGHT next to them.
Oregon lost their super-regional game to Missouri 1-0.
