Photoessay #1004 - Chocolate gift

Today's April 3, on April 15, we leave for our historic trip to Japan. I'm a little concerned regarding my stamina, but this trip will be beautifully choreographed. We will enjoy our hosts Nobuko of Yamagata City and her daughter, Natsuko, a graduate student at Hitosobashi University of Tokyo.

Yup, the same Natsuko who stayed here for 2+ weeks. We had a great time. I planned this trip on an impulse. My mom was quite excited and pleased about it. We talked about it several times when she was in the Medicare Unit.

It's all meant to be.

But it does involve gifts. Natsuko brought some little Japanese things and some rolled chocolate wafers. The main gift that I have is a piece of my mom's silver for Nobuko (a simple candy dish). My sister had asked my mom if she would like to pick out a piece of silver for Nobuko; my mom liked that idea. So that's the big gun, it's personal, pretty and has value. I've also bought some of the Blue Cottage peach jam. Local and yummy.

Then I bought 3 pounds of Sees Candy. I could have bought some local pricier stuff. Somehow I thought that Godiva was local but clearly not. Sees, a favorite from childhood is California based but you just can't beat it. However, we shouldn't visit their shop bit eat their candy because it's too darned good. I used my gift card from the MacArthur grant Juvenile Justice program to buy the chocolate. Too bad, I can't eat it all but that's the idea of a GIFT, you're supposed to GIVE it to somebody else...

Picture taken of the display at the local Sees Candy shop at the mall before they told me that they didn't allow pictures....
