I would like to feature some of the pictures that we used for the memorial for my mom last week. But I want some variation as life goes on. My life and that of my siblings, children and my cousin, indeed their neighbors, goes on. With signs of hope to join the images of her life.
What better than the early signs of spring. Not much signs of spring in Rockford, note the picture of a few days ago showing piles of freezing dirty snow in their neighborhood. Nothing blooming yet. Here, in the Puget Sound region, we have some early spring going. Check out my shot of my overgrown camellia bush in my front yard about to explode into bloom. My mom's favorite flower, she had a big camellia bush in Sacramento with bright pink oversized blossoms and big bright yellow stamens aptly named "Lady Clare" But this picture is from my own bush in my own front yard.
My mom loved the beach. Any beach; any time. She loved to walk on the beach, that was a huge draw for Aptos, the small comunity on Monterrey Bay where we vacationed. If there was a beach, she wanted to take a walk there. Not sure the date or location of this shot, I'm thinking about 20 years ago. Don't know what ocean, she was partial to either.
When they moved to Orange County in the 1970s, soon after they moved, she decided she would find the beach. "I know it's here somewhere", she declared, and off she went, finally settling on Newport Beach as her favorite.
I live near the ocean now (well sort of, Puget Sound) and I like the beach but I'm not driven as much as she was. I like visiting but I don't necessarily like spending all day there. Especially the weather and water around here is CHILLY.
