Photoessay #972 - Napkin Rings

When we first started looking at my mom's extensive collection of sterling silver, my cousin pointed out the napkin rings. Customarily people gave engraved silver napkin rings as baby presents. My mother had quite a collection of engraved silver napkin rings, all engraved with names including

R or Regina Z Weil (pictured) for my grand mother
B or Irwin for my Grandfather
even
Allen for my father

A custom mostly forgotten though maybe for christening gifts.

These two for my grandmother are particularly attractive. I'm not quite sure of her birthdate but probably in the late 1890s.

We distributed them among the grandchildren as keepsakes.
