Even though it's only two miles away. Brian, the crewcut older chaplain I like so well, told me he could give me a ride there but he could not promise to get me home. Snowing steadily. He said that it's supposed to get worse. He lives just two blocks from the hospital and he indeed may be there later but he will walk from his home. They've plowed the street here twice already and I can see traffic on Rockton Ave.
I talked to my mom and she again sounded good. Slept through the night, at her breakfast and drank the supplement. She says 'stay home, talk to me around noon' so I guess I will.
The area is under a winter storm warning, here's the latest from the newspaper website:
According to the National Weather Service, Rockford received slightly more than an inch of snow overnight, but an additional 4 to 8 inches of daytime accumulation is expected today with a high around 22 degrees. That forecast has prompted a winter storm warning that is in effect until 9 a.m. Friday.
Tonight's temperatures will fall to about 9 degrees with wind chills around minus-7 as blowing snow will limit visibility on the roads. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible tonight, which could put our two-day accumulation at 12 inches.
Snow will end Friday, but temperatures will fall from a daytime high of about 11 degrees around 9 a.m., to about 6 degrees for the rest of the day. Wind-chill values will be around minus-10. Friday night's low could reach minus-3 with a wind chill of minus-17.
Update-- I did manage to get over to the hospital around 3pm by requesting a ride from the Wesley Willows shuttle. Slow going and lots of snow on pavement but it's not that far. My mom was doing reasonably ok. Sometimes she knows what's happened during the day and sometimes not so much
