Every Labor Day, Seattle celebrates with a big art festival at Seattle Center. Labor Day Weekend. Used to be free. But now it isn't. Big time. Lots of performers. Maybe a more sophisticated group of activities from Folklife which is Memorial Day Weekend.
Dennis and I remember going when it was free. Now, if you want to buy a day pass now, right before the event, it will cost $50/day. Of course, I've never heard of any of the people playing but I AM making an effort to listen to new music.
So, though, we always try to make an appearance at Folklife, we won't do so at Bumbershoot. The crowds really bother me more than they used to do.
Bumbershoot (and, to some extent Folkflife), often mean particularly miserable times for parents of acting out kids. Somehow, Bumbershoot is an excuse and an occassion to go completely crazy, use lots of drugs and alcohol, and generally run amok. Not fun, not fun at all.
Our plans? We go to Harstene Island on Sunday for the annual picnic. Monday, we take Melina to the zoo.
This must be last year's poster....
