WSU ALIVE Day 1

What strikes me the most, as my youngest child goes off to college is how I’m not all that involveded. What she does at Washington State University is entirely up to her. I don’t need to know about all this. There were 4 workshops offered to students and parents tonight

Financial Aid – forgeddabout it
Studies Abroad – if she wants to figure something out that’s fine
Being involved at WSU- that’s her getting involved not me
ROTC – enough said

I’m tired and hot. Not so bad really. I bought this fan and it works great. I can’t get the internet to work. Here, in the lobby. They told me I could connect in the lobby but I couldn’t get it to work. NOTE: broke out the Ethernet cable and, boom, internet.

I hate to admit it but tomorrow’s programs don’t grab me either. I’m sure they’re fine but they really have to do with her experience. They do a great job with the orientation counselors for the kids. There was a part tonight for parents and kids and the incoming students were so pumped up, making a lot of noise. By the end of the program, Naomi will have her classes all figured out. We really tried to find her dorm but it was just too hot and we couldn’t really figure it out.

And it wasn’t all that hot. *I* was just hot. In the 80s on it’s way up. But while she was taking her math placement test, I went up to check out the WSU fruit sale. What they really mean is that it’s UPick cherries in their organic orchard. So I did that for awhile. Admit it, I like the big juicy ones I got at Thriftway.

Letter boxing is great, there was one near the orchard and one near the bears. The one near the sheep looked too hard, too many crawly things. That was right after an earwig fell out of my hair from crawling around in the brush after the box near the orchard.

But I knew that I was just too tired so I bagged the seminars and came back to this room. They really separate the parents and kids, I knew they would. Great that Naomi will get so excited about coming here.

I made a little alliance with the women on both sides of me in these dorm rooms. Turns out one is from Shorecrest. How crazy is that?

It was a long drive over here, 6 hours through mostly unfamiliar territory. Taking Route 26 from Vantage to Colfax really is ok, the road is good but do NOT expect many services. The only very small towns you pass near are Royal City, Othello and Washtucna. Not hardly any gas stations.

So now I have this nice new fan blowing on me and it feels pretty good…..
