Photoessay #784 - Reading the Torah
My sister made it very clear that no photos would be taken during the ceremony. They had a professional photographer hired and the rabbi said that only he could take pictures. Hey, that's a gyp! Much as my non-compliant self yearned to be free, I had been directly ordered to not take any pictures.
Though I had taken some great ones during Pam's service.
This picture (taken by my cousin) is from the run-through on Thursday evening. Just before we arrived. My brother mentioned how well it had gone and how much he enjoyed hearing Teresa chant her torah portion. Most people don't chant. But Teresa did in a musical sort of way, very impressive.
Here she's flanked by her parents, Ed and Pam. They are no longer married but both participate actively as parents. Pam's the member of the Temple. Ed's not Jewish. But Pam worked in parts for Ed and his siblings into the service. Ed opened the ark. His sister and brother undressed and dressed the Torah. Important roles in the ceremony.
Rabbi is on the side reading along in this shot.
Formal pictures were taken before including both families. While posing for the picture with 'everybody' in it, I muttered (rhetorically) "How did I end up in front and in the center?" One of Teresa's cousins on her dad's side answered back under her breath "Same way I did" Funny!
I hope to have a photo of the actual event but who knows?
