The title is taken from a rather dark scary (aren't they all?) Decemberist song about a mother being kidnapped and carousing with sailors in the middle of the night. The ending punch line...
"Remember what she does when you're asleep"
Take that seriously, often things do go on when we are asleep.
Just very recently, I got up and prepared to make myself a bowl of oatmeel (see ingredients). I also have a 5 month old puppy (of extremely uncertain breed, also pictured). He greets people, especially me, to the full extent of the law. He loves everybody, he is so excited to see you, he just can't stand it, you are my FAVORITE!!!! And part of his prancing and dancing and jumping and woofing, well, he can goose you when you least expect it.
I'm making the oatmeal and he comes up and, you guessed it, there's that cold nose. I jump and the water that's supposed to go in the bowl for oatmeal gets poured into the container holding all the rest of the oatmeal.
What to do? I fish out most of the wet oatmeal and carry on.
But things happened when we were asleep. And awake. Because today when I went to make oatmeal (I'm really trying the healthy diet here), I notice some clumps. On examination, these are clumps of mold growing in the oatmeal. In fact, most of the large container of oatmeal is now full of aqua colored clumps of mold.
Ewwww! I have spared you the terrible sight. The whole container of oatmeal got dumped VERY quickly. I'm sure it's from the 2/3 cup of water I dumped in there some time ago.
It can happen. I'll blame the puppy.....
