Photoessay #639 - EMT

Susanna called last night and let us know the good news, she passed the EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) class at Lake Washington Voc Tech. Last quarter, she and her partner went the wrong way on one of their cases and she did not pass. But they let her take the class again this quarter without paying any tuition. Look at it this way, I told her, you get six months training for the price of 3.

That program is excellent, very intense and complete. An example of vigorous competent training going on at community colleges. My beef is at the University of Oregon. She won the Pac 10 postgraduate scholarship good for 3K towards graduate training. But the faculty rep to the athletic department determined that the EMT class did not qualify as post-graduate training and denied the use. Hey, that class was extremely rigorous and challenging. Very very demanding with very high standards. Shame on him for not giving it the respect. Think of it next time you need an EMT! However mom cannot fight this battle.

But it's a step towards of her goal towards a career as a firefighter.

We did have weeks of all having our vitals taken. Picture used without permission from Wikipedia
