Tonight is the Highland Dancer's annual bonding event. The 'new kids' get 'kidnapped' (The parents got the scoop at the meeting last week) and they do a variety of things, go out to dinner, do a little scavenger hunt around the town, wash cars, do the jig at the neighobrhood Safeway, have an overnight at one of the Captain's houses complete with a candlelight ceremony.
All of the hazing stuff has been strictly removed (except maybe the jig at Safeway) and the faculty advisors come along.
The year Naomi was a New Girl, the bonding event occurred on her 16th birthday. We couldn't have given her a more memorable 16th birthday. They utterly surprised her, they had a birthday cake, a blast!
But check out the weather:
Rain and wind. Snow may mix in late. Low 38F. Winds WSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a half an inch.
Pretty miserable, you think?
Picture must have been from the yearbook from last year because Ian and Curtis are in the back. Naomi is smack in the middle facing the camera. As Senior Captain, she has BEEN BUSY.
Myself, I've been preparing for the power to go out. Made dinner, cleaned up the dishes, found the flashlights and candles. Wind Advisory until midnight. The last few years, we've had a LOT of power outages. How about that year when the power was out 5 days!!! Yikes! Awful! The only good thing about having your power go out is that you no longer have to worry about your power going out. For obvious reasons.
Gasoline powered generators have become quite popular. Obnoxious! So when you are in the dark and cold, you have this awful racket of your neighbor's generators. And you are still in the dark and cold. However, if I owned one, I might feel differently.
Let's all hope that the power stays on and all that work I've done is FOR NOTHING!!
