Photoessay #461 - LOI

We went to a small party WAYYY down in Bonney Lake for a LadyHawk player in honor of her signing of her Letter of Intent to play softball at Ohio University. The modest senior center in this small South King County community was decorated in forest green, black and white. Here teammates came when they finished their other obligations. This young woman worked very hard on her recruiting and had the choice of several valuable scholarship offers from mid-Majors. It sounded from her mom that she might have been a bit disappointed not to have attracted the interest from highly ranked teams in the larger conferences. But the MAC (a mid-major) seems like a great conference where she can be very successful. Most of these recruiting stories have some element of kismet of them. In this case C had made an unofficial visit to this college and the coach declined to make an offer. Then that coach left and the new hire turned out to be the coach from Southern Utah who had previously offered her a scholarship. The new coach was delighted that she was interested in Ohio U. An official visit was arranged and, boom, she because a Ohio Wildcat.

Mostly we chatted with the player and her parents, talked to some other players.

Picture below shows Susanna in her sophomore year. Playing for the University of Oregon in a tournament at the University of Hawaii-Manoa in Honolulu. THAT was a fun tournament to attend! Susanna's small stature in contrast to her head coach's much larger presence. Even though the coach is stooping down, she's still so much taller.
