Photoessay #460 - Sib good times

Some good times for my brother and sister last weekend. My brother has just told my sister that he will make a stained glass piece in honor of her bat mitzvah in the spring. He had designed a piece incorporating musical symbols with the everlasting light found in synagogues. He wondered whether she would rather have an abstract piece like the one he had just given to me.

So he broke the surprise and asked her which she rather would have. She was so thrilled that he would make her a piece with such a thoughtful design. But she would prefer an abstract piece. They are looking at the two pieces in the window, the smaller earlier piece that he left with my mother "I just brought it to show her and she liked it so much, I decided to leave it" and the larger piece to the right. They are considering how to subtly incorporate a star of david into the design. Should it stand out or not? Should it be transformed spatially in some way? Could you design it in so that only jumped out at you if you knew it's there. Curved or straight lines? Happily, they brainstorm ideas of shape, color and texture.

Mostly she's so happy that he's going to do it. And he's pleased that she will love it.

My brother's considerable artistic talent has shown up late. As a child, he didn't show it. He's just started doing stained glass after a 25 year hiatus.

A happy moment for my sibs. And me!
