Photoessay #446 - Wedding Hawks Parents

This picture matches yesterday's photo. At least partially. The parents for the three 2002 LadyHawks on the right of yesterday's picture. All 50 somethings gathered for a wedding of one of their adult children.

Left to right

Dennis - father of Susanna, maid of honor
Scott - father of Amy, the bride
Sandy - myself, mother of the maid of honor
John - father of Kristina, bridesmaid
Gin - mother of Kristina, bridesmaid
Sue - mother of Amy, the bride

No coincidence that I have used gender specific parental terms. This wedding took place in a 'covenant' church, a large facility in one of the populous communities south of Seattle. The orientation is conservative, the wedding service littered with "the wife serves her husband, the husband cherishes his wife" kinds of references. Myself, I would never have put up with that kind of language. Don't know if the bride knew it would be there or if she embraces that view. I am not lockstep (well maybe almost) with political correctness. As I grow older and have been involved in a conventional heterosexual marriage for over 32 years, I do recognize that there are differences between men and women in a marriage over a life span. So I am not completely scornful, just mostly.

The 2002 LadyHawks Blue brought these families together and we all spent our time supporting that team and enjoying that experience. Maybe other teams enjoyed the cohesiveness and success of that group but that was OUR team and OUR experience.
