Photoessay #273 - Fiery

This picture appeared on the front page of the Seattle Times. Photo Getty Images used without permission.

The caption is:
Serbian nationalists opposed to Kosovo's independence storm and set fire to an office in the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade on Thursday after a massive rally in the Serbian capital.

Such a frightening image of fanaticism and destruction. I do not know how doctored up this photo is. But the colors and the silhouettes evoke terror and pain. The upstretched hands, the person throwing something big into a fire beyond. The onlookers witnessing the destruction. Hell, it looks like hell.

I don't know anything about Kosovo's independence but this scene horrifies me.

On reflection, possibly the incendiary colors and shady silhouettes may telegraph the publisher's intent. Does the slanted propoganda value trump the actual journalistic image?
