Photoessay #192 - Young Lanaya

I know that we have more photos of Lanaya in Jim's albums. I'll share these that I have in digital form. One was already featured early in my blog history but it's such a knockout shot that it deserves to be shown again.

Lanaya will be laid to rest tomorrow finally with a private graveside service with Dennis, myself, 3 of our 4 children (I know Susanna would come up from Eugene if we wanted) and our exchange student daughter Gowoon.

The top picture was taken in the dunes by their late friend Bill Randsdell. I think that he used the picture just of Lanaya (sorry Jim) successfully on a calendar. The second picture features the young Jim and Lanaya soon after their marriage. Jim was in the Navy, the story was that Lanaya eloped, taking the bus down to San Francisco where Jim was stationed, leaving a note for her father. Jim had to ask his commanding officer for permission to marry. Their first home was a dining room in an old house in Oakland.

My friend Gin's dad, Leonard also attended West Seattle High School. He remembered her. "She was always a looker" is his comment.

What a beautiful woman she was, and those are incredible photos. Love the dunes.

My mother in law. My sister in law declared she was always the most beautiful woman in the room...and she was.

I was rather an ugly duckling daughter in law but she always treated me with respect and was often trying to improve me in the looks department...in a good hearted way
