Photoessay #191 - At Alki Beach

This really should be Lanaya Week in honor of her passing. Since Dennis often is not too cooperative at scanning pictures, I can use the bits and pieces of pictures that I have.

This picture, probably around 1996? The kids are maybe around 7, 10, 12, 14?? Could be. Though the title of the file is "disneyland.jpg" this is clearly taken at Alki Beach in Seattle. When my parents came to visit, they would love to go to Spuds Fish and Chips in Alki Beach on Elliot Bay in West Seattle. A venerable fish and chips place, it used to have the very best fish and chips, right across the street from Alki Beach. You could order the double fish, douse it with garlic vinegar, get extra tartar, they would wrap the meal in newspaper and you can go across the street to Alki Beach. Still can. My mother always loved going there. We would make a special trip across the city over to West Seattle with Jim and Lanaya. It was a fun double grandparent thing to do. And they would pay the bill!

Now three of the grandparents are gone, only my mother is left. Within two years, my father, my father in law, my mother in law and Dan Beittel are gone. My mother is doing well, she's planning on going on a cruise in February and taking my sister. I must have taken this picture as I am not in it.

Lanaya was already starting her downhill slide but Jim's shirt is clean, a welcome sight.

I'm glad you have good family memories. I do too and I miss my relatives. They were the glue. I've been meaning to contact you. I'm Cheryl's friend. I showed my daughter your blog and she is sure she played your daughter at Gold Naitonals one year. We have pictures of Raymond Hesse too. Jess starts her morning on Spy every day. She is also a good sports photographer and I hope she will post some of her photos from the CWS in Oklahoma City.
