Photoessay #181 - Thanksgiving #1

My first Thanksgiving dinner with Dennis' family plus one of Ilana's roomates went off just fine. Danny came with his girlfriend Kelly. Cooked the turkey in the new (soon to be former) stove. It came out ok but a bit undercooked. Gowoon and Ilana peeled the potatoes, Ilana was in charge of setting the table. Naomi did put together the cornocopia but Gowoon felt it could be improved. My chestnut/apricot stuffing came out well, turkey gravy was fine. Grandma Ann brought roast vegetables. The person with the green salad was unable to come but it was just fine. Lureen made a fine pumpkin crisp. Sara brought a tasty pumpkin pie. Occurs to me that nobody left the leftovers but THAT'S OK!!!! I do not need some tasty pumpkin pie leftovers.]

All the Thanksgiving stuff is now clean and piled in the corner to be put back up on Thursday. This is a good holiday.

Was the new stuffing with chestnuts up to your standards? And, why do you have two Thanksgiving meals?

My neighbor usually has her Thanksgiving dinner on a Saturday when she has her daughter over. I'm lucky to eat that favorite meal twice.

The stuffing came out well but I don't really think that it was worth all the fuss about the chestnuts. I liked the apricot addition though.

Why two Thanksgivings? The first one is really for Dennis family. That family wants to get together but often have other obligations of 'The' day. So somehow, my house is in the central location and my house is the biggest (though not very big) and I cook turkeys so I was always nominated. Originally there was some issues between my husband's adoptive and birthfamily but that's largely resolved.

We had been having Thanksgiving with another family all the time our kids were growing up. Eventually Dennis' parents were included when they moved up here.

The last few years, I have explored combining the Thanksgivings. But it just doesn't seem to work out. Too many people and other obligations.

Once you have all the dishes and decorations out, it's not too hard to just do it twice.

Especially because I am quite close to my goal of doing ZERO for xmas.

The cornucopia was made by Naomi first.
Second, Gowoon picked that out and arranged it again.

Loreen is sorry she didn't leave any pumpkin crisp if there was any to leave especially since you know where Loreen is wearing it now. She will be sure to leave some next year. Sandy makes a great turkey and we always very much appreciate and enjoy our first Thanksgivings with the family. Love ya:)
