Photoessay #182 - Special friends
Pictured: our friend Perry and his son Paul at Paul's graduation party last June. Perry is barbecuing on his front driveway in front of his open garage. They, along with my friend Laura (the mom) and their older son Ben will come for Thanksgiving this week. So fortunate to have been able to share our Thanksgivings with them these last, how many? Ben is 26 and we were doing it pre Ben. So a long time! We just don't see each other enough and they really are some of my favorites.
So I'm so pleased they are coming. Along with a family group that I refer to as the "Greater Gellermans". They came last year and the two groups meshed together so well.
It was a bit sad last year with my father in law, Jim, gone. Perry always makes the pies and he had this special deal going. Jim loved pumpkin pie so Perry made a big deal of making one pumpkin pie JUST for Jim. Made a fuss about the presentation of the pie and making sure that it got in his car so he could take it home. Jim loved it. Last year, Perry said "I was so sad this year not to make that pie for Jim".
But my family had the first turkey leftover meal this evening. I asked "should I keep this for one more night or toss it?" "TOSS IT!" came the reply from my two teenagers. We're all looking down the pike at one more giant turkey dinner coming in a matter of days.
