Photoessay #180 - Thanksgiving preparations
I'm hosting my first (of two) Thanksgiving dinners tomorrow afternoon. I don't stress over it too much. Mostly today I went out and PURCHASED. Of course, forgot some things such as
"What was I thinking, why did I buy 3 bags of stuffing mix instead of 4?
Did some excessive buying at Costco including *3* cases of sparkling cider, that's 36 bottles. Currently resident in our 'wine cellar' that would be on the table on our deck outside being drenched by rain. Ilana and I went to Trader Joe's in the pouring rain because they promised me over the phone that they had frozen chestnuts. Which they didn't have.
Dennis and I made a rare foray into the retail world going back over to Lowe's to talk about the replacement stove. He wanted cast iron grades not the metal ones we have now which have already chipped and bubbled. We were delighted that the new model we will recieve does have cast iron grates plus this cool griddle feature. We continued looking for a new electric knife because we've lost parts of the inexpensive one Dennis bought last year.
Which landed us at Sears right near Central Market. Very popular place. Wow, keep me out of there! I just stopped in to see if they had chestnuts (they did, bought the Asian snack version) and came out with 8 packages of chestnuts, asparagus, these adorable little crabapples for the cornucopia, olives, two blue Chinese rice bowls and 12 pounds of linguine (SUCH a deal!)
Check out the refrigerator, the big pot has the stuffing which contains chopped up apricots, kiwi as well as chestnuts. That's only PART of the food that's lying around here.
In the past, I have always successfully roasted a turkey in much less time. I rarely have any bird in there for more than 3 hours. But this is a different oven and I'm not at all sure how it will work.
Naomi finally polished up my grandmother's candlesticks and the pewter pitcher. Also shown is the cranberry that I made earlier this evening as well as the chestnuts package (actually chestnuts are pretty odd little items)
