Photoessay #178 - Going on a plane in 1963

We are going on an airplane trip and it's a big deal. Here we are

The Ginsburgh family went on an airplane to visit the relatives in New England in 1963. And what an event it was! Here we all arrive at the Sacramento Municipal Airport (which is looking pretty spiffy with neat flower beds, fresh-looking paint and patio umbrellas) in the bright California central valley sunlight.

When you traveled by plane (especially ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY!) at that time, you dressed up. My mother made sure that we all were looking at our finest. You couldn't go on the plane in your play clothes, no way. My younger brother with his sport coat and tie. My sister and I dressed up in some of our best clothes with the white socks and the Mary Janes. My mother in her proper suit. This IS an occasion.

I really love this picture, as well as your other Sacramento pix! Air travel was so different then. May I link to this from my blog? I'm doing a post regarding this airport. Here's my blog: eichlerific.blogspot.com
