Time to write about our Civil Rights/Stonebraker trip. We were gone for 11 days, first participating in a special Civil Rights trip through the South through Temple Beth Am and then visited Ilana and Matt (my daughter and son in law) and Pam (my sister) in Lafayette IN.
This trip is run by a special company that, among other things provides this special tour to Jewish organizations.
Our route went through
Atlanta
Montgomery
Selma
Birmingham
Memphis
Starting Thursday afternoon and running through Monday night. A lot to see in a short time. We were moving for sure. One of my main concerns was keeping up with the walking. I've TRAINED for this over the last few months. And I did keep up, at least during that part of the trip.
I didn't take too many pictures, I figured the images of many tings we saw could be gotten through other sources.
Some pictures from Atlanta. Start with out fearless young tour guide Eli who did a great job. The bandage was from an improvident slide during a baseball game.
We're on the grounds of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, now a large complex, containing a large new church, the older church, a Park Service section and this large memorial pool. To the lower right of the picture are the actual burial sites of Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King on that large concrete slab. On the front of the steps in the background is one of my favorite lines used by Martin Luther King, Jr.:
We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
based on a passage from the book of Amos
