The Seattle Slam

As my readers know, my daughter played softball for the University of Oregon Ducks from 2004-2007.  We enjoyed being Pac 10 parents going to games when we could.  I've remained a Ducks softball fan since then.  So her era was quite a number of eras removed from the current team.

But the Oregon team (currently ranked #2 towards the end of the season) travel up to play Washington (currently ranked #4 and really they are my second favorite team.)  Players get passes for guests but I don't know any players any more.  But I do know some of the coaches so I asked the assistant coach for some tickets.  I know that would be ok.  She said "we want to pack the stands!"  So I'm going to all 3 games, Dennis went tonight, Susanna and Megan will come tomorrow.  They sold out, even the outfield but we had assigned seats right in the middle of the current Oregon parents.  So we got to know some of them and hang out and cheer with them.  Fun!  We sat between the pitcher's parents and the right fielder's parents.

It was a close game (as most all Pac 12 games are) but Oregon finally won it in the 9th (softball games are seven innings long.)  Their transfer player D J Saunders hit a grand slam which effectively won the game.  The final score 7-2 distorts the game, it really was a close game.  They've already named the hit "The Seattle Slam"!  Fun!  Picture is taken from a video clip of the hit.  You can see the runner  on third.

The bottom pic shows the players' delight as D J comes to home plate after her home run.
