Casserole
Today is my birthday!
So I got some cards and we will go out to dinner at the waterfront place that we both like. They have an early bird reduced menu deal plus they send you a $20 certificate on your birthday. Beautiful day. Especially for April.
That was a big adjustment I had to make moving to Seattle from California. California has short springs, a few weeks and you're into the dry warm weather. Here, spring is a full 5 months long. And even then. April can be blustery, windy, wet and COLD. Not today though.
I had asked Dennis for a replacement for my casserole (seen above). When I asked him, it was not broken but it did have a chip on its side. Plus the cover was long broken. I've used this casserole a lot. Yes, it looks 70s. Because it IS 70s. I got it for a wedding present nearly 42 years ago.
So now that I've really proved that I'm old...
So, of course, Dennis can't find one like it. So he orders a set of new ones. They're not the same really at all. Smaller, deeper. Plus cost $120.
But then I think about it. I've used this casserole to cook 42 years worth of dinners. Do I have 42 more years of making dinners ahead of me? Sadly, no. Dennis still says that I make too much for dinner.
So maybe I should adjust.
Change is hard.
But then we looked some more and found a 'vintage' one just about like this one. For $38. Why change? Dennis agrees to get the new one and return the other ones.
Good thing because when he checked upstairs, the original casserole had just broken! It had heard it was being replaced and just couldn't hold on any more.
That's what I think....
Hmm, should I go for the chocolate cake? Yes! Yes! I want a chocolate cake!
