From the drawer - Shorecrest wins state 2001

I'm dong little bits of this and that getting ready for family to come for the Thanksgiving weekend.  About time to put up some pictures of Susanna's wedding from last December.  They should be up!

In my household, we have a whole bunch of cheap photo frames.  Of course, to find one when you want one, etc.  But I came across the picture from 2001, took it out and used it for a family wedding picture.

Shorecrest wins State!   Maybe not the best picture but it captures the moment.  Shorecrest High School softball wins the 4A state championship in 2001.  Right after the last out.  Yes, it was extra innings, Ashley was at third, she's a blonde to the left of Susanna.  Known for reckless base running.  We are in the stands saying under our breath "Ashley, do NOT go unless coach says, stay there!"  Susanna did something because she was on first.  Then the pitcher Kristina (in the center with the red braids) had a little pooch hit over the infield.  Ashley scores, Shorecrest wins!

A few of these young women ages 16-18 (now 32-34) played softball in college, Geneva at the top played a few years for Willamette; Toni hugging Kristina played for Shoreline Community College.  Adrienne, partially obscured with the ponytail on the right played for Western Washington.

The guts of the team were Susanna (kinda hidden) who played shortstop and went on to be a four year starter at Univ of Oregon (Pac 10) and Kristina the pitcher went on to be an All-American at Cal (also Pac 10).  Kristina usually batted after Susanna who often got on base somehow..  Her job, always, was to sac Suzie to second.

Coach O, to Kristina's right in white, young and intense, one of the best coaches Susanna ever had.  If only her college coach had been as good.  She ran that team so tight, you better listen to her.  You didn't want to hear her 'commitment to the team' speech, nope.

The next two years, Shorecrest would get to the title game and lose.

The fans clapping in the background.

It was a really big deal at the time.
