I cannot understand it.
Tuesday morning, my husband and daughter reported that there was an aid car and several police cars in front of my neighbor's house. What was happening? They stayed a long time. Did somebody die?
I immediately went into Bargaining. Probably it was the dad. He had been ill for a long time. So gaunt looking. Did Sam die? Oh no! That would be so hard for his daughter N! Probably it was Sam.
Later my neighbor calls and tells me, no it was N. No, that wasn't happening. Lovely high school girl, always cheerful with a wide smile, waves to me when I drive by. Likes to pet the dog. Would help her mom in the yard. I know she takes care of the pets next door when they travel. No, he's wrong, it's just a rumor, we don't know if that's true.
I've known her since she was a toddler.
But I know this neighbor and he would not tell me something like that if it wasn't true. But no, uncomfirmed. We don't know, probably not that way.
People are over there all day. In the evening, many many people including some clergy in robes. When I leave for swimming, I hear sustained chanting.
I escaped right into denial. I didn't even want to look at their house. No no no.
An aside, her parents immigrated from Cambodia. I think they've seen some hard times. As an older couple, they had this daughter N. The complete center of their lives. Their blessing.
No no no.
So today, I look around and find some evidence. She was on the high school tennis team. Yes, my neighbor said that she told him that she had won her match on Monday. The high school tennis team is playing their meet tomorrow in her honor. Come and bring food.
No no no.
I call the high school, yes a girl by that name died.
All day people have been coming by with food. I hate this, I really really really hate this.
And I worry so much for her parents.....
