Photoessay #2583 - The Amazing Catfish

I realized that if we wanted to see any more SIFF movies, it would have to be this weekend.  Because starting next weekend things will be crazy and it's over June 8.

So do the math.

Folklife is also this weekend.  Like many of our friends, I used to love it but now it's just too much.  Too crowded and difficult.  As soon as I get there, I want to go home.  That is NOT the right Folklife attitude.  For readers who don't know, Folklife is a huge folk and international festival at Seattle Center.  Lots happening, great music, interesting experiences, etc etc.  I used to go for hours.

But Dennis still wants to go.  So fine, go for it.  He finally decided to go on Sunday.  So I set up two movies at the Uptown Theatre with time for lunch in between.  Two movies?  That's crazy talk.

We both really enjoyed the first move "The Amazing Catfish."  Touching drama, Mexican.  Isolated young woman meets a mom with four kids in the hospital; the mom is dying of AIDS.  The young woman ends up  as part of the household.  The reviewers talked about the dysfunctional family but, to me, it looked like a family with four growing up, teen kids.  Maybe my household was not quite as wacky but it felt a lot the same.  Anyway, rather a tearjerker but sweet.

We both didn't like the second movie "Once upon a Forest.:"  Too heavy handed, too much orchestral music.  A highlight was a big tree falling,  But it tended to put you to sleep.
