But I ponder, why didn't we?
A sixteen year old son of a member of my parent group died this weekend. Nobody's sure how but it likely involved a freeway overpass. And falling from it.
A bereaved family who has lost a son and a brother.
This young man, extremely impulsive involved himself in reckless risky behavior. Every chance he got.
When you do risky dangerous things, sooner or later, your number comes up and you don't come out on top. The forces of the universe collect their due. That's why the society considers those behaviors dangerous. Drinking, drugging, playing chicken in traffic. Those people indulging feel they are invincible; that nothing bad will happen to them. Getting hurt is just for sissies and losers. Not them.
The high must be extreme.
Even if you could see it coming, what can you do? Try not to enable it, that's about it.
