Photoessay #2839 - Funny!

I've been reading the New Yorker since 1968.  They've been running this caption contest for several years (though not since 1968).  I read the magazine seriously out of order.  It must be by inner disorganization problem.

I saw this one last night from the Dec 17, 2012 issue and this suggestion:

"What happened to your goldfish?" struck me as very very funny.

Why? So droll, great juxtaposition, not just that a guy has glass bowl of your head but that a goldfish could be in...not only that but the guy USED to have a goldfish.  That's even funnier that some guy has a goldfish bowl complete with a goldfish swimming around for a head.  So now his colleague inquires with a complete straight face about his missing goldfish.  Yes, what did happen to the goldfish?

I must report that this caption did not win.  Why?  It's hilarious!!

The winning caption was "It looks like Ted is out of gumballs, meeting adjourned."  Naomi liked that one better.

But what happened to his goldfish???
