Photoessay #2919 - Personal Gender Pronouns

So I'm starting on a new quarter and a new class.  Intro to Women's Studies.  Only 8 regular students registered and only 3 showed up today, all young women of color, btw.  My buddy Jean from the Holocaust class came.  I had told her about the class.

Very interesting, I'm always for a new point of view.  That's the reason I'm doing this.

Now I'm not sure that social constructionism trumps biological determinism.  Nor do I necessarily accept this is all underlaid by capitalism.

Ever have a little boy who insists on making car noises before they can even talk?

I do like the instructor's definition of feminism -- self-determination for everyone regardless of gender.

The instructor identifies as transgender and said that the preferred pronoun was 'he'.  It's hard to write a sentence without using a gender pronoun.  He had us introduce ourselves and say what was the personal pronoun that we preferred.  As well as our favorite flavor of ice cream.  All five of us said 'she'.  With straight faces.

Never been asked that before.  I guess it is an important thing.
