by Raphael Lemkin...published in 1944.
We are reading part of this book for my class.
Definitely comes under the category "Just when you thought that things couldn't get any worse."
And, as usual, things are always more complicated than they seem.
The author coined the word 'genocide' in this book.
During the war, the author collected Nazi documents and orders and put them together showing, specifically, just how they intended to destroy the peoples Jewish and Slav. Not just by killing them, the Nazis realized that this was not enough; they needed to destroy the whole culture and civilization. They thought long and hard about how to do this systematically. And, as one reviewer, put it, they were legions of fascist lawyers following behind making sure that it was all 'legal' and documented.
So I had already read about all of the brutality and persecution, how can you miss it? But seeing how it all fit together in the Nazi world view is even more shocking.
They were well on their way of executing their main plan.....
