Photoessay #1892 - Condo in Edmonds

I've been saying for years that I would like to move to a condominium in Edmonds, an attractive community just west of here on the shores of Puget Sound. About a year and a half ago, my friend Jan (who sells real estate) and I looked for an afternoon.

Seemed like it was time to go again and bring Dennis along to see what he thought. The first one we saw (pictured above) was by far the best one. Also the smallest as far as square footage. Really a gem. We would buy it, rent it out and have it 'for later'. Superb location just off the main street, it really would be a 'walking community'. Really a gem especially in regards to light. I really want good light. We went on a dark rainy December afternoon, perfect day to look says Jan because you can see what it really is going to be like.

We looked at several other condos and discovered the obvious but unknown to us. We were looking in mid price range. In order for the front room to have a view, you have to stick everything else in back and try to get in a window. So the door is in the back and you walk down a hall with the other rooms off the hall up to the front. Dennis says it reminds him of a motel room. Agree. And the kitchen doesn't have a window. Dark, dark, dark. Dennis and I agree that we don't want a unit like that. Some had large well-equipped kitchens but dark.

The one we liked had good light throughout. Very small kitchen. No window but a big skylight which gave amble light. It would be hard to have pets. We currently have two cats and one dog. Everybody is used to going outside. Plus we still have quite a group of folks coming and going. Happens when you have 4 kids plus a granddaughter. Will things be different for us in 5 or 10 years? Probably. No place for the corner cupboard.

But still this place is a gem. Good view too.

Great that Dennis came along because it gave us an opportunity to really picture what we might like now and in the future. All real estate is emotional anyway. Dennis ended up being more committed to our current house.
