Woot, woot! I have another publication. I submitted my piece "The Sign" to Magic Cat Press and they've accepted it. Oh yeah.
There are a few pieces that I really hope will be picked up by specific journals but I am beginning to form a strategy.
Let's look at some numbers
52 submissions
11 rejections
2 acceptances
A lot of those places will never reply. My strategy now was to submit to new places that publish on-line. Yes, there are those lovely literary journals put out by MFA programs. They're only going to pick 4 pieces and let's face it, ok?
I found out about duotrope from a flash fiction workshop I took at the Edmonds Writing Conference. I've never written flash fiction; the teacher said that you could find places at duotrope that would take your work and you could build up your resume that way. Sounded good so I've started trying it. A lot of work, you have to identify the places, read their submission guidelines, they're all different, etc
So Magic Cat Press was new, they publish online. So, bob's your uncle.
Duoptrope uses their submission tracker (which I've started to use) to chart acceptance rates. I didn't quite see this before I submitted (late at night, blah).
This is for 'fiction and poetry' for Magic Cat Press
Accuracy We have received 33 reports within the past 12 months, not including pending responses (see below). The more responses reported, the more accurate the info. Rejections are often underreported, which skews the statistics in favor of acceptances. Most markets have a lower acceptance rate than indicated here.
Days Reported 0 min | 4.7 mean avg | 4 median | 16 max days (4.1 std dev)
Responses (100.00 %)
Acceptances: 96.97 % (4.5 avg. days per acceptance)
Rejections: -
Rewrite Requests: 3.03 % (12 avg. days per rewrite request)
Most acceptance rates are like 3%. Or less. Their acceptance rate 97%
Now those are MY kind of numbers, oh yeah.
They look legit. I'll let my greater blog community know when this happens.
So far, my acceptances have been in the "You Showed Up" category. Whatever works.

It's Magic Cat Press isn't it? Not Black Cat. Thought you ,might want to change that in case they see.
