Photoessay #1519 - Momma dog

I know I got off a bit in my numbering....

Here's a picture that I featured in a Jan 2009 post. Teddy's momma dog.

We have quite a few affectionate names as attempts to give him a breed name. Dennis calls him a fruitbat or a giraffe hound (he's got such a long neck) or a Mottled Ukrainian terrier (MUT)

Basically he's 'about that kind' as I say. a Heinz 57. "Everything but a frog" as our friend Perry says.

He's the puppy of a rescue dog. I describe the mom as kind of a shepherd whippet thing. Notice that she kind of has brindle coloring. Almost all of the pups were brindle (like Teddy). The father...well whoever was around the back of Fort Lewis at the time.

People always think he's a dreaded Pit Bull. They say "Cute Pitt!" and I snap back defensively "He's NOT a Pitt". But he could be part, who knows.

Momma dog, named Gracie, doesn't look like she's part Pitt. Everybody who knows Teddy knows that he's very mild-mannered and submissive. The cata have no problem bossing him around.

Somebody in his gene pool must have been a work dog ... and a retriever. Teddy feels that his job on this earth is to fetch the ball and drop it at your feet. It's who he is and what he does. Very dedicated to his job.

So you guess the breed!

Picture of Teddy from Thursday when Lee and I were playing fetch with Teddy in Lake Washington at Magnuson Park.
