Photoessay #1502 - The young crowd at Harstine

Today we went to a summer picnic at a family cabin at Harstine Island on the shores of Pickering Passage, part of South Puget Sound. Don't try to figure out the geography of Puget Sound, it's impossible.

The cabin has quite a bit of waterfront with a retaining wall and a narrow rocky beach.

Dennis' mother is the oldest of seven adult siblings who like to get together several times per year. Melina went last year and had a great time with Danny. So this year they both came as well as Danny's girlfriend Jessica. Plus Dennis and me and Naomi and Grandma Anne. You counting up how many people here? Plus Teddy who has been there many times. Dogs are welcome as long as they stay outside. Teddy's not a wanderer, he stays close. He's just looking for somebody to throw the ball.

So we were figuring, that's seven people including Grandma Anne plus Teddy. We could do it in our van, it's tight, very tight but we can do it.

Then, last night I heard that Danny and Jessica want to bring Maddy, their year old Yorkie/poodle mix. Uh, game over. Maddy likes to yap a lot and she's often interested in being the boss dog. Nope, that would never work, we'll have to take two cars.

Sure enough, when everybody gathered here this morning, there was a lot of yapping and barking and running around and dog drama. We got everybody separated. Dennis took Danny, Jessica, Dog Maddy and they went to pick up Melina in Redmond in the van. I took Grandma Anne, Naomi and Dog Teddy in the Prius.

Everybody was fine two hours later when we got there. Picture shows the young crowd down on the beach. Danny and Melina very busy finding little crabs under rocks on the beach. Naomi and Jessica chatting. And all four dogs including Uncle Alan's dog Sunny and the elderly lab Max.

I convinced Danny and Jessica to led Maddy off the leash and she did pretty well. They were afraid she would run off but you can see she's hanging out with the other dogs quite well.

So there was plenty of food and beautiful weather. So all went well.
