Photoessay #1196 - Helpers

Whew, just got off a phone-athon planning this USA trip. I emerge victorious if you can call racking up $2500 in non-refundable costs a victory. I have changed the order of the cities on the trip. It now goes Seattle - Norfolk, VA - Knoxville TN - Detroit MI. The Norfolk leg will be to visit our friends Matt and Sue in Hampton VA with a plethora of nearby historical sites. The Knoxville leg will (we hope) to visit with Dennis' sister who lives in Deer Lodge TN. Think there are sites to see there. The Detroit leg which starts Thursday evening until Sunday morning will be to hang out with the School of Information kids at U Mich Ann Arbor.

You mean, this isn't a typical tourist itinerary.

I have also booked the hotel in Hampton. This work was all necessary and there's more to go, you have to do it if you are going to travel. But, as I share with people my own age...."What are we waiting for?" and "If not now, when?"

But really I want to give a shout out to some helpers I heard about today.

To the staff member at the Department of Licensing in Bellevue who gave the written driver license test to Sophoeuy (Melina's mom) orally explaining some of the words that she didn't understand. Sophoeuy passed and I KNOW she feels great about this as this has been standing in her way for a long time

To the some academic staff at Washington State University who offered to write sealed references for Naomi at the last moment as she applies to be an Apartment Coordinator. Also congrats to Naomi for becoming the secretary for the READ FOR LIFE (might have the name wrong) organization in Pullman.

To the career counselor at University of Michigan who gave some Ilana some MORE ideas about strengthening her resume. I know it's her job but she really had some great suggestions. Ilana's doing a great job getting experience, internships, etc

To the staff at an engineering department at a public university who gave M some great ideas about summer internships in their community. OK, he let them believe he was an engineering student at their university rather than at his, but still.
