Photoessay #1140 - Banyan Trees

Today we left Volcano and drove around the north end of the Big Island back to Kailua-Kona sight-seeing all the way, We stopped at the Mauna Loa macadamia factory, buying some nuts and watching the processing through factory windows. Then off to Hilo, where we ate at a local place. Hilo looks like a town out of this century, you can see that all of the money and development is going to Kona on the leeward drier side. We visited the Hawaiian Tropical Garden; pricey but gorgeous, beautiful tropical gardens stretching all the way to the ocean. We REALLY enjoyed this with corresponding overuse of digital cameras.

Picture of Charlie in front of a huge banyan tree on Banyan Drive, the modest center of hotels in Hilo. He looks pretty small....

Saw Rainbow Falls outside of Hilo, some waterfalls in the Garden and stopped by the 400+ foot Akaka Falls
