Photoessay #1100 - Last year halloween
A year ago, my mom was in great shape. She had had a defribulator surgically implanted and she improved markedly physically and cognitively. My sister's schedule cleared (her daughter is in competitive band, they didn't make state last year, they did make state this year, going on today in Indianapolis) and I impulsively decided to go to Rockford. I told my mom, "I'm not waiting for something bad to happen, you're doing great, let's have some fun" So my sister and brother both went to Rockford also.
We had a great weekend. My mom went shopping with us, went out to dinner. We went out to the country to this apple place and listened to music and ate apple doughnuts. On Sunday morning we went to the swedish pancake place (I always pick that one up). My brother took this shot after breakfast. She's looking good and enjoying herself.
I am so so glad I made that trip. Just to have fun, some good times. My brother brought his two cats as usual and she loved fussing over them. And they loved visiting 'Grandcat'.
She fell at the end of the year and passed Feb 21. On her own terms.
And guess what? On my cluttered desk, I found this shot of Not by Chance (david bailey on the right) performing at University Presbyterian Church in 1997. The time when I had them to breakfast the next morning along with some braintmr people. Those shots will turn up eventually. He liked to tell the story...he was in a nice restaurant and the staff quietly asked him to remove his bandana, not appropriate. He told them he had had multiple brain surgeries and surely the rest of the diners would be quite upset if he took it off. They backed off.
Today, I have another Husky game and I'm not too enthusiastic. But it's not too cold, I'll be ok. I already have some spaghetti sauce in the crockpot. 4pm start. Washington vs Stanford. mmmmmm may not go UW's way. It's a lot of standing around.
