Photoessay #1072 - SIFF

Seattle International Film Festival wrapped up yesterday. For the people who run it, must be a sigh of relief as it ram May 20 - June 13 with lotsa movies and lotsa locations. They say they are the largest, could be.

For the second year, I purchased Dennis two 'six packs' of theater tickets. Which means six times, we HAVE to get out of the house and go to the movies.

Here's what we saw this year

Chef of South Polar - Japanese chef at a remote Antarctica research station. Ok, sounds far-fetched but I enjoyed it, was sweet and was truly an ensemble piece with lots of long scenes shot without break. Good hearted.

Nowhere Boy

Biopic of John Lennon as a teenager. Living with his aunt, his mother returns to his life and she IS a piece of work. He gets started with music. Entertaining, 'Paul' and 'George' make appearances but they don't look like themselves but they are all believable.

Eagle Hunter's Son

A family-oriented Swedish movie set in Mongolia, a boy's search aided my his father's eagle who helps him along. Lots of Mongolian scenery

Topp Twins

One of New Zealand's top acts, yodeling middle aged lesbian twin comedy act. Immensely popular. Very politically active. Comic, slapstick. Guitar, country music. Movie about themselves, their family, their performances. Plus the Topp Twins were actually there at the screening, performed including "Untouchable Girls"

Howl

Biopic of Alan Ginsberg at time he wrote his poem Howl. Well done. I wrote about it a few days ago.

Last Train Home

Documentary about the 150 million migrant workers in China who only return home for the Chinese New Year. Couple working in the city, their adolescent children are back in the country with the grandmother. Lots of Advice, Criticism, Explanation which adds to the tension between the parents and the teenage daughter. They needed parent group!

It's a wrap!
