Photoessay #1024 - Making Udon

We'll keep on a Japan track for awhile as I have so many interesting things.

One morning, the Ai Ai (Center for autistic children and adults, Nobuko is president) staff invited us for lunch. For Udon noodles.

When we arrived, we found that *we* were making them. The staff was all ready upstairs which will be used for the school age kids respite after school program. They fitted Dennis and I with aprons and hats and had the dough all ready. First step is kneading it; you do this by putting the dough on the floor between two layers of plastic. And stomping on it. See Dennis and Nobuko among general hilarity and giggles. Then the dough is rolled out (shown) and cut into narrow strips. Noodles are ready to cook. Often they are served cold.

The next two shots show the luncheon. The senior staff participated including the head of the adult program. The dishes shown would be typical (10 day trip and we are experts :)) Cold udon soup and several vegetable dishes and freshly made tofu.

Many thanks and appreciation to the Ai Ai staff for preparing this special even for us!
